The Lawyer Awards: stellar judging line-up revealed

Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) managing partner Lisa Mayhew, Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison chair Brad Karp, Shearman & Sterling senior partner Creighton Condon, Royal Mail group general counsel Maaike de Bie and Uber legal director Matt Wilson are among an expert lineup of 43 international in-house and private practice judges for The Lawyer Awards 2016.

The judging panel also includes European law firm leaders such as Uría Menéndez and A&L Goodbody managing partners Luis de Carlos and Julian Yarr, and Zhong Lun partner Xue Haibin.

In-house judges include Telefónica UK general counsel Ed Smith and South Staffordshire group general counsel Gareth Brewerton.

A number of lawyers named in the Hot 100 2016 are also judging the awards, including Clyde & Co’s Claire Petts, Cooley’s Nicola Maguire and Quadrant Chambers’ Guy Blackwood QC.

The judges will evaluate 25 entries out of the 27 total categories during the process, including Law firm of the Year and Pro Bono Initiative of the Year.

A shortlist for The Lawyer Awards, held in association with Travelers, will be announced on 9 May 2016. The final winners will be announced at on 29 June in front of 1,300 peers including managing partners, in-house lawyers, barristers and private practice teams, held for the first time in the brand new five-star Intercontinental O2 hotel overlooking Canary Wharf.
