Norton Rose Fulbright has made up 39 new partners globally in its smallest promotions round since its 2013 US merger.

Just two partners were made up in London, with the bulk of promotions going to lawyers in the US.

The promotions are across seven practice groups with the majority in banking and finance (13 partners) and dispute resolution (12).

Its corporate, M&A and securities group saw six new partners made up, while intellectual property had three, tax and real estate had two, and employment had one new partner.

The US saw by far the most promotions this year, with 14 new partners across Norton Rose Fulbright’s Houston, Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles and New York offices.

Two London partners, Mark Craggs in banking and finance and Charles Pinkerton in real estate, were made up, while a further five were made up in continental Europe. Both Craggs and Pinkerton trained at the firm.

The firm made up seven new partners in Canada, six in Australia, two in Asia and South Africa and one in the Middle East.

In total 12 women were made up in this round, accounting for 31 per cent of the new partners.

Global chief executive Peter Martyr said the promotions “underline our global strategy across the firm and illustrate our continued dedication to the expansion of our core markets”.

The firm made up 51 partners in 2015, with women accounting for 37 per cent of the total round.

Asia and South Africa received significantly more new partners last year, with nine made up in South Africa and eight in Asia.

Legacy Norton Rose’s merger with Houston energy firm Fulbright & Jaworski went live on 3 June 2013, creating a firm with overall revenues of £1.3bn.

Last year the firm posted global revenue of $1.792bn (£1.118bn), a 3.2 per cent decline on its 2013/14 turnover of $1.851bn.

Last year Norton Rose Fulbright appointed Dallas-based non-executive chair Ken Stewart as global chair in May. Stewart replaced Johannesburg-based Sbu Gule, who was appointed to the role in April 2014.

The firm has focused much on Africa, Asia and the US in the last 18 months, taking a Hong Kong disputes team from departing Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson soon after tapping US firm K&L Gates for Hong Kong based capital markets and corporate partner David Johnson in March.

It also ramped up its presence in South Africa, announcing strategic alliances with longstanding best friends Shonubi Musoke & Co Advocates in Uganda and Gill Godlonton & Gerrans in Zimbabwe.
