Specsavers has named Eversheds as its preferred legal provider following the retailer overhauling the way it works with law firms.

Eversheds was appointed Specsavers’ preferred legal supplier for UK litigation, employment law, and commercial and corporate issues.

The appointment marks the first time Specsavers has opted for a preferred legal adviser over an informal panel relationship.

Global legal director Stretch Kontelj carried out the panel review, stating he was “impressed” by Eversheds’ focus on helping Specsavers achieves its “strategic priorities”.

Corporate partner James Trevis is client partner for Specsavers and led Eversheds’ team during the pitch. The team also consisted of consumer head James Batham and partners Paula Barrett, Gary Pellow and Charlotte Walker-Osborn.

Eversheds has a history of advising Specsavers. In 2010 the firm advised the retailer in relation to a High Court case against Asda, with the court finally ruling Asda had infringed Specsavers’ trademark.

Eversheds’ work on the case was handled by partner Antony Gold, who then took the case to HGF Law when he moved jobs.
