Fried Frank launches restructuring group with hire of Mayer Brown’s Katz

Mayer Brown’s joint head of restructuring Ashley Katz is preparing to move to Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson to launch a restructuring practice in the City.

Katz joined Mayer Brown in 2008 as a partner, where he has co-led the restructuring group alongside Devi Shah.

He previously worked at Allen & Overy as a senior associate for five years, and was also a partner at Paul Friedman & Associates in Johannesburg.

It is understood Katz will be tasked with building up Fried Frank’s restructuring practice from February. While at Mayer Brown he represented accounting firms, insolvency practitioners and funds.

Last year, Fried Frank set about building up its funds, private equity and finance teams, hiring a funds trio from Kirkland & Ellis, Hogan Lovells finance partner Stuart Brinkworth and King & Wood Mallesons regulatory partner Gregg Beechey.
