Khaitan & Co has advised Dewan Housing Finance Corporation in relation to the maiden public issue of non-convertible debentures (NCDs) aggregating to ₹4000 crores ($598m).
Dewan Housing Finance Corp is India’s second largest private housing finance company.
Khaitan & Co acted as the sole legal counsel to the issue. Sudhir Bassi (executive director), Manisha Shroff (associate partner), Aditya Cheriyan (associate partner), Soumya Mohapatra (principal associate), Oindrilla Bhowmik (associate), Vijayaraghavan (associate), Bidya Mohanty (associate) and Nisarg Shah (associate) represented the client on the transaction. This is the first public issue of NCDs by a private sector institution that offered NCDs with a floating coupon, linked with CPI Index (inflation linked bonds). The issue being a debt issue was over 18 times within 6 hours, a record of sorts for any debt public issue in India
