Bird & Bird bumps NQ salaries to £62,000 as it posts strong retention

Bird & Bird has revealed that it is keeping on 88 per cent of its autumn qualifying trainees in newly qualified (NQ) roles.

Of 17 qualifiers, 15 are remaining with the firm. The firm’s intellectual property department will take seven NQs, with five joining the commercial team, two going to finance and one to corporate. All remain in the London office.

Of the 59 NQs who have remained with Bird & Bird in the last four qualification rounds, 73 per cent have gone into either intellectual property or commercial.

The result is similar to last year, when Bird & Bird kept on 15 of 18 trainees(83 per cent)

The firm’s head of graduate and trainee management Lynne Walters said: “We are delighted to have retained so many of our trainees and look forward to seeing them take their careers to the next level here at Bird & Bird.”

The NQs will receive a salary of £62,000 – a 5 per cent pay boost on the £59,000 handed out last year.

Meanwhile, the salary for incoming first-year trainees has risen from £36,000 to £38,000, with second-year trainee salaries up from £38,000 to £40,000.
