Allen & Overy (A&O) has lost another corporate partner in Germany, as Michael Ulmer leaves for Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
He is the second Frankfurt partner to quit the magic circle firm in a week, after German capital markets head Oliver Seiler left for Latham & Watkins on Monday (5 September).
A&O has four bases in Germany – Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich – with Frankfurt currently home to more than 35 partners.
Ulmer joined A&O in 2006 from German firm Gleiss Lutz. His move was organised by his former Hengeler Mueller colleague Seiler, according to German magazine JuVe.
At Cleary, Ulmer will focus on domestic and international private and public M&A transactions, joint ventures and corporate advice.
The US firm has hired a number of partners from the magic circle firm in the last few years, picking up A&O’s head of contentious financial services regulation Bob Penn in London earlier this year.
