Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has hired Eversheds’ international arbitration head Will Thomas, based in Paris.

Thomas will relocate to London to join Freshfields. He has been a partner at Eversheds since 1999 and has been based in the firm’s Paris office since 2001.

His role at the magic circle firm will see him return to London, although he will spend time working with Freshfields’ Paris office, which saw five departures in as many weeks earlier this year.

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe hired four partners from Freshfields in April, including Paris employment head Emmanuel Benard, finance partners Hervé Touraine and Emmanuel Ringeval and corporate partner Patrick Tardivy.

It then saw tax partner Antoine Colonna d’Istria exit for Norton Rose Fulbright less than a month later.

While at Eversheds, Thomas worked on arbitration cases before the Iran-US claims tribunal, investor-state arbitrations, and commercial disputes in the energy and telecoms sectors.

Following his exit Eversheds has appointed Rod Bundy and David Sellers to the role of global co-chairs of its international arbitration group.

Bundy is based in Eversheds’ Singapore office while Sellers is based in Paris and specialises in the energy and infrastructure sector.
