Gateley has launched is first office in Northern Ireland, opening its newly acquired tax advisory business in Belfast.
Gateley Capitus was formed when the publicly listed firm bought tax advisory specialist Capitus for £2.7m in April. The acquisition was made as part of Gateley’s strategy to expand its business using the £5m it had raised during its AIM listing last year.
The tax business advises investors on commercial property transactions and during 2014/15 it generated a profit of £593,000. Gateley Capitus is led by directors Aubrey Calderwood and Kevin Meyer.
Calderwood said: “The new office allows us to better serve our growing client base in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, providing local businesses, inward investors, solicitors, accountants and surveying practices with the specialist services they need.
“In a climate where companies’ tax affairs are coming under increased scrutiny, we help clients understand and claim the tax breaks and incentives they are entitled to. This frees up cash for reinvestment in growing their businesses.”
The firm’s new Belfast office is located in the city’s business district at Imperial House, Denegall Square. The opening brings the total number of offices operating under the Gateley brand to 12.
This includes Gateley’s Reading office, which opened in December after the firm picked up former Pitmans managing partner Christopher Avery.
Following Brexit a number of law firms have turned their attention to the Republic of Ireland. Pinsent Masons is currently in the market for 10,000sq ft of office space in Dublin while BLM is also considering increasing its office space in the city by 60 per cent to 5,500sq ft.
In May DAC Beachcroft struck a deal with Northern Ireland insurance firm McKinty & Wright, its first formal best friend alliance in the country.
