McDermott Will & Emery has elected corporate and transactional head Ira Coleman as its next global chairman.
Coleman, who is also the partner in charge of the Miami office, had been at the firm for 24 years and has held a series of leadership roles including serving as a member of the firm’s management and executive committees.
He advises clients on matters related to healthcare M&A, healthcare private equity and health system representation.
Coleman replaces outgoing co-chairs Jeffrey Stone and Peter Sacripanti, who held the top role jointly for eight years and announced that they were stepping down earlier this year.
Both Sacripanti and Stone will remain on the firm’s management committee and will return to practising law full time.
Coleman said in a statement that McDermott is in “a great position for accelerated growth and success” and that he has “no doubt that our best days are still ahead”.
McDermott’s London office has also seen leadership changes this year, as former head Hugh Nineham stepped down in favour of Andrew Vergunst.
The pair were re-elected at the start of the year, just as the firm announced a revenue drop of 1 per cent to $891.5m and an average profit per equity (PEP) partner rise of 3.3 per cent.
The firm also put in place a new global strategy, concerning the growth of its corporate practice alongside its private offering.
