Ashurst’s Brussels managing partner Carl Meyntjens has left the firm to join Simmons & Simmons.

Meyntjens’ departure comes a week after three of Ashurst’s office heads in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, and Singapore exited the firm.

Meyntjens has led Ashurst’s Brussels office since 2007 and will join Simmons as a partner in the firm’s corporate and commercial group. He will be joined by of counsel Kelly Cherretté.

Following the departure Ashurst has restructured its office in Brussels, appointing a new office managing partner and creating a new ‘head of Brussels’ position.

An Ashurst spokesperson said: “We’ve appointed Arnaud Wtterwulghe as office managing partner and Denis Fosselard as head of Brussels. Arnaud and Denis will make a very strong management team. The commitment and dedication they will bring to their roles will significantly enhance our business, strengthen our offering and maximise opportunities.”

Fesselard joined Ashurst in 2013 as a senior partner in the firm’s competition team. Prior to that he worked as head of EU and antitrust at Legance Studio Leagale Associato.

Wtterwulghe has worked at Ashurst since 2001 after leaving Baker & McKenzie where he worked as an associate. He specialises in banking and finance matters with a focus on cross-border transactions and debt restructuring issues.

Last week Ashurt saw a flurry of office heads exit the firm. Singapore managing partner Shaun Lascelles left to take up a position at Vinson & Elkins mere hours after it was revealed that his predecessor, Keith McGuire, was also moving to the PwC Legal.

At the same time The Lawyer reported that Ashurst’s Hong Kong head was leaving to join Allen & Overy. The firm’s Abu Dhabi managing partner Alastair Holland also exited Ashurst to join US firm Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle.
