Royal London Asset Management (RLAM) has introduced its first litigation lot to its existing legal panel.

Wedlake Bell has emerged as the investment management company’s litigator of choice and will act as its sole advisor. Head of commercial services David Golten will work as the firm’s client partner.

Following its appointment the firm will handle all of the disputes and litigation work that originates from the £8bn property investment portfolio.

It is understood that RLAM invited three firms to tender for the sole provider position.

The litigation lot has been added to RLAM’s existing property panel, which is made up of King & Wood Mallesons, Canning Connolly, Gowling WLG and Pinsent Masons. Together the four firms advise RLAM on all of its retail, offices and industrial property work.

The property panel took effect on 1 June and saw RLAM reduce the number of external firms it uses by two. The real estate panel will run for three years while the newly created litigation panel will run for two years.

Head of support services Kevin Bould oversaw both panel reviews.

RLAM manages assets worth more than £93.8bn and employees 2,900 employees across its seven offices in the UK and Ireland. The company invests across all major asset classes including government bonds, corporate bonds, property and cash. It is owned by mutual insurance company Royal London Group.

Last month it was revealed that motor insurance giant Admiral was approaching its former counsel to sit on its first ever panel of barristers’ chambers. The panel will result in Admiral instructing more barristers directly on major insurance claim disputes.
