Comic Relief is searching for a new legal boss as general counsel David Lewis has stepped down to become Snapchat’s first non-US legal counsel.
Lewis is set to leave the charity after just one year on the 4th of November to pursue the “unique career opportunity of a newly created senior role at Snapchat”.
A spokesperson told The Lawyer: “David is maintaining a close relationship with Comic Relief and his intention is to continue to support the charity in other ways in future. David has had a very positive impact in his role leading the legal function at Comic Relief and we will continue the work he has driven forward with the support of his successor. We are currently recruiting for an interim general counsel role to start in November and will look to fill the role as a permanent position as soon as possible.”
Lewis, who had joined the charity in 2015 from Fieldfisher, was also Comic Relief’s company secretary.
As part of his role, Lewis advised the organisation on all UK and international legal and compliance matters.
Examples of his work include advising on high profile broadcast, online and event-based fundraising deals and activities, co-production arrangements with the BBC and indie producers, core and niche IP licensing, major corporate sponsorship deals, complex grant making arrangements, social investment loans, technology procurement, data protection and other regulatory compliance programmes and employment issues.
This was Lewis’ second in-house role after a four-year stint at Fieldfisher, where he filled a variety of different roles as an associate, senior associate, director and consultant.
In his first in-house role, Lewis was an in-house lawyer at the BBC, where he advised on all UK and international legal and compliance matters.
