Former Travers Smith head joins Rare as first commercial boss

Travers Smith’s former managing partner Andrew Lilley is joining diversity recruitment agency Rare as its first commercial director.

Over the past year, Lilley has advised Rare as a consultant and mentored candidates on two of the recruiters’ law programmes.

As Rare’s first commercial director, Lilley will work on its growth strategy as the consultancy looks to move into new sectors.

He will also building on the launch of its contextual recruitment system, which supports companies in finding the most diverse candidates.

Lilley joins a host of other lawyers on Rare’s board, including former Slaughter and May executive partner Graham White who joined in 2013.

Other members of the diversity board include former Simmons & Simmons senior partner Bill Knight, Latham & Watkins M&A partner Kem Ihnacho and Pillsbury special counsel Sandra Teichman.

Rare works with a number of law firms in the City – including the entire magic circle, Baker & McKenzie, Berwin Leighton Paisner and Herbert Smith Freehills.
