Squire Patton Boggs corporate partner Jane Haxby is replacing long-serving Peter Crossley as the firm’s European head.

Haxby will start her term in January, with her appointment having been approved by Squires’ global board.

Separately the firm has announced that Fred Nance will become Squires’ global managing partner, replacing Steve Mahon who has held the role since 2012. Nance will be responsible for the firm’s US LLP.

Both Nance and Haxby will serve three years in their respective roles.

Haxby’s predecessor Crossley has been managing partner for 12 years – starting off as legacy Hammonds’ head in 2004.

The litigation partner went on to lead the firm as European managing partner when it combined with Squire Sanders & Dempsey in 2011 and was re-elected in 2013. He announced he was stepping down from the position in September.

EMEA corporate chair Haxby had been widely tipped to take over from Crossley, with other contenders understood to have included London head Robert Weekes.

Haxby joined Squires as a trainee in 1993 and became a partner in 2001. She also served as managing partner of the firm’s Manchester office and was appointed EMEA corporate chair in 2013. Her new role saw her feature in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2014.
