Arnold & Porter and Kaye Scholer are merging to create a firm with over 1,000 lawyers worldwide.
The firm will be called Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer, with the merger going live from the start of 2017.
Together the firm will have a global revenue of approximately $900m – with Kaye Scholer’s revenue estimated to stand at $370m and Arnold & Porter’s totalling $650m.
Kaye Scholer is the smaller of the two firms, with 130 partners worldwide. Arnold & Porter has up to 250 partners.
The Lawyer understands the two firms held early stage talks earlier this year before calling off their discussions in the summer.
However, negotiations picked up again in recent weeks.
The firm’s largest office will be in Washington and consist of 400 lawyers. In London, the combined firm will have around 60 lawyers.
