Allen & Overy (A&O) US senior partner Kevin O’Shea is leaving the firm for Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy along with two real estate partners.

O’Shea joined the magic circle firm in 2002 after a 17-year career at Paul Hastings.

He became managing partner of the firm’s US operations in 2008, giving way to David Krischer five years, who relocated from London to take up the role.

Since 2013, O’Shea has been A&O’s US senior partner and also headed up the firm’s real estate practice in the region.

He will be joined by A&O real estate partner Erwin Dweck, who joined A&O as a senior associate in 2006 and was promoted to partner five years later.

The trio is completed by Yaakov Sheinfeld, who was promoted to partner at A&O just this year. He was formerly an associate at Paul Hastings.

The magic circle has been hit by a number of management losses in the US in the last six months, including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer executive partner Michael Lacovara who left for Latham & Watkins, relocating from London to New York for the role.

Despite the losses, A&O has been pushing ahead with expanding its team in New York this year, hiring four lateral partners to its finance team. The three laterals were from White & Case and Proskauer Rose, while Milbank associate Todd Koretzky also made the move.

Meanwhile Norton Rose Fulbright hired Sidley Austin’s entire US public finance team across three offices in New York, Washington DC and San Francisco. The move saw Norton Rose Fulbright open in Northern California for the first time, taking seven lawyers including three partners from Sidley in San Francisco.
