Olswang corporate finance partner Azlinda Ariffin-Boromand is joining Withers, becoming the latest to leave the firm ahead of its tripartite merger.

Ariffin-Boromand, who also qualified as a barrister, joined Olswang as a partner in the firm’s corporate team in 2013.

She was featured in The Lawyer Hot 100 in 2014 for her work in spearheading Olswang’s push into Malayasia.

Prior to Olswang, Ariffin-Boromand was also a partner at Fasken Martineau having joined the firm as counsel in 2007.

She started off her career at Malayasia firm Shook Lin & Bok in the late 1990s.

Her departure comes as Olswang prepares to merge with CMS Cameron McKenna and Nabarro next May.

She is one of a number of partners to opt out of the mega-merger in recent weeks, including IP partner Stephen Reese who left for Clifford Chance, head of patent prosecution Justin Hill who is joining Dentons and former Asia head Rob Bratby who is set to join newly-merged Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer next year.

Ariffin-Boromand advises primarily Asian clients in relation to their investments in and out of the UK, as well as capital raisings by Asian entities on the London Stock Exchange.

Current clients include Malaysian government funds and government linked entities, Asian high-net-worth individuals and family offices.

Withers has been rapidly expanding in Asia in the past two years with formal alliances in Australia, Singapore and Japan. The most recent Japanese opening saw the firm hire a tax team from Morrison & Foerster’s Tokyo office.
