Move of the week
Paul Hastings has appointed partner Jean-Louis Martin to lead the firm’s real estate practice in Paris. He previously held the same position at King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), while also serving as real estate co-head for Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining KWM in 2015 Martin spent 10 years as an associate at Jones Day. He brings with him to Paul Hastings associates Arielle Messawer David Bensimon, and Quentin Jobard.

Fieldfisher has strengthened its energy and natural resources group with the hire of Shane De Beer as a partner. He has joined the firm from Dechert.
Employment boutique Brahams Dutt Badrick French has hired Cerys Williams as a partner in the City. She was most recently counsel at KWM.
Covington & Burling has picked up former KWM heavyweight Ian Hargreaves. He has joined the European dispute resolution practice as a partner. His arrival follows the hire of KWM litigation duo Craig Pollack and Louise Freeman in December.
Claire Lipworth has left the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to join the partnership of Hogan Lovells. She has spent the past three years as the FCA’s chief criminal counsel.
Reed Smith has added financial regulatory partners David Calligan, Tim Dolan, Tamasin Little and Adrian Brown to its London office as part of a mass hire from KWM. Also joining are corporate partners Delphine Currie and Mark Sanders, together with private equity partner Laura Brunnen and tax partner Gareth Amdor.
North
Helen Brown has joined Weightmans as a partner in the local government team in Leeds. She was previously head of the public sector unit at Langleys.
Kennedys has appointed Paula Garvey as partner in the Manchester office. She joins from Hill Dickinson, where she was a partner.
Europe
Bryan Cave has bolstered its corporate and M&A practice with the hire of Dr Kirsten Girnth as a partner in Frankfurt. She has joined from DLA Piper, where she was joint co-head of the German corporate practice.
EY Law has picked up former KWM Germany managing partner Stefan Krüger in Frankfurt. Krüger joined legacy SJ Berwin in 2007 from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Fieldfisher has expanded its Brussels office with the hire of corporate partner Thomas Lenné. He joins from Baker McKenzie, where he was an associate.
In addition to London Reed Smith has added KWM partners in Paris. Joining are competition duo Marc Lévy and Natasha Tardif and tax partners Sylvie Vansteenkiste, Fanny Combourieu and Raphaël Béra. Also joining are corporate and private equity partners Guilain Hippolyte and Pierre-Louis Périn.
Meanwhile, in Germany Reed Smith has added KWM competition partner Tilman Siebert and KWM litigation partner Francis Bellen.
US
K&L Gates has added Emily Reynolds to its real estate investment, development and finance practice in Charlotte. She has joined the firm as a partner from Moore & Van Allen.
Debevoise & Plimpton has announced that Andrew Ceresney has returned to the firm as co-chair of the litigation department. Ceresney left in 2013 to join the US Securities and Exchange Commission, where he was director of enforcement.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has hired Kevin Wolf as a partner in Washington DC. He has joined from the US Department of Commerce and will be based in the firm’s international trade practice.
Freshfields US securities litigation head Marshall Fishman has left for Goodwin Procter in New York. Fishman joined Freshfields from Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel in 2010.
DLA Piper has added Thomas Maira to its real estate practice in New York. He has joined as a partner, after seven years as a partner at Reed Smith.
DLA Piper has also hired George Karavetsos as a partner in the litigation practice in Miami. He was formerly a director at the US Food and Drug Administration.
Mitchell Holzrichter has returned to Mayer Brown as a partner in the government practice and global infrastructure group in Chicago. He most recently served as deputy chief of staff for the office of the Illinois governor Bruce Rauner.
Dechert has recruited former federal prosecutor David Kelley as a partner in New York, after he left the partnership of Cahill Gordon & Reindel. He will also act as co-chair of the firm’s white-collar and securities litigation group.
Africa
Dentons has hired litigation partner Elton Anderson in Johannesburg. Anderson joins from TGR Attorneys, where he had been a director since 2015.
Asia
Allen & Overy has added David Shen to its IP practice in Hong Kong. He will head the firm’s China IP and life sciences practices, having joined the firm from AstraZeneca, where he was general counsel for China.
Dechert has boosted its financial services practice with the addition of Michael Wong as a partner in Hong Kong. He was formerly a partner at K&L Gates.
Simmons & Simmons has hired Clifford Chance senior associate Payam Beheshti as a partner in Dubai. Beheshti joined the magic circle firm in 2003.
Promotions
Squire Patton Boggs has appointed corporate partner Tony Reed EMEA chair of the global corporate practice. Paris-based Reed joined the firm in 1996 and will replace Jane Haxby, who recently became European managing partner.
Dentons has announced that counsel Susan Wang will head the firm’s new CEE China Desk. She will relocate from Beijing to Budapest.
Addleshaw Goddard managing partner John Joyce has been elected for a second four-year term in an uncontested election. Joyce first became managing partner in May 2014 after joining the firm in 1998.
Garrigues has elected Fernando Vives as chairman for a second five-year term. He was first appointed to the role in 2014 and has spent more than 30 years at Garrigues.
