Fieldfisher expands in China with Shanghai launch

Fieldfisher has opened a new office in Shanghai, just three months after pulling off a merger with Chinese firm JS Partners.

The Shanghai office will be Fieldfisher’s second home in the country, launching in Beijing last November via a combination with JS Partners. As part of the deal the 12-partner firm changed its name to FeiShi.

New antitrust partner Liang Xing will lead the office, joining from MyLink where he was senior partner. JT&N partner Rocky Wu has also joined and specialises in patent litigation.

Fieldfisher Beijing partners Baoen Bai and Ming Zhan will relocate to Shanghai to support the new office. Four more partners are expected to join the firm’s new operations by June.

Fieldfisher first entered China in 2013 through a tie-up with Shanghai firm Ryser & Associates. The formal agreement ended last year when Fieldfisher merged with JS Partners.

The firm pulled off three mergers in six months last year, also entering the Birmingham market after merging with 18-partner outfit Hill Hostetter. Fieldfisher also opened its doors in Italy over the summer after a merger with Studio Associato Servizi Professionali Integrati (SASPI).
