Allen & Overy (A&O) litigation head Tim House is moving to the firm’s New York office to become its US senior partner.
House’s appointment follows the departure of former US senior partner Kevin O’Shea, who moved to Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy along with two real estate partners last November.
The new role will see House lead A&O’s expansion in the US and Latin America from the start of May.
House will relocate to the firm’s New York office, but will return to the UK on a monthly basis. He will continue to be the firm’s global head of litigation.
Last year House put his name forward in the firm’s management election race, losing out to senior partner Wim Dejonghe.
House will work alongside new US managing partner Dave Lewis, who will also be based in New York. Lewis will replace David Krischer in the role, although Krischer will remain at the firm as a partner. Barbara Stettner will continue to lead A&O’s Washington DC office as managing partner.
A&O has been on a hiring spree in New York in the past few months. This month it recruited a three-partner team from Paul Hastings to its finance practice.
The magic circle firm made headlines last year as it broke lockstep for the first time through the recruitment of four finance partners from White & Case and Proskauer Rose.
