Goodwin has appointed two new London co-chairs to replace longstanding City boss David Evans.

Private investment funds partner Samantha Lake Coghlan and finance partner Paul Lyons will jointly take on the London role, which has been held by Evans since 2011. They are both in the real estate industry group.

Evans, who will remain chair of Goodwin’s European offices, joined the firm from Ashurst alongside Lake Coghlan to spearhead the firm’s expansion across Europe. Lyons joined in 2013 from Travers Smith.

Under Evans’ leadership, Goodwin has opened in Frankfurt and Paris, with the latter seeing six partners join from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM).

In London, Goodwin has also boosted its headcount with KWM hires taking on KWM investment funds head Michael Halford and five funds partners – Ed Hall, Laura Charkin, Shawn D’Aguiar, Patrick Deasy, and Ajay Pathak.

They joined alongside 15 associates and five trainees, kickstarting Goodwin’s first trainee programme in the UK.

Other hires in the City last year included Shearman & Sterling private equity head Mark Soundy and tax partner Sarah Priestley.
