DLA Piper has announced plans to shut a second European office this week, closing in Georgia as its 11-lawyer team is set to join Dentons.

This news comes after the firm made a decision to close in Berlin earlier this week, with its team and premises transferring over to DWF.

The DLA Tblisi team, led by Otar Kipshidze and Avto Svanidze, will transfer to Dentons at the start of May.

A DLA Piper spokesperson said: “The firm has had a successful presence in Tbilisi since merging with a local Georgian law firm in 2005. However, we have since concluded that our respective interests and strategies can be better delivered separately in future.

“We are confident that we can continue to support our global clients who operate there in an efficient manner and wish the team every success for the future.”

The team in Tbilisi brings practice and sector capabilities in litigation and dispute resolution, corporate, banking and finance, IP, energy, government, and infrastructure and PPP.

With the addition of the Tbilisi office, Dentons will have more than 7,800 people in 150 offices globally.

Dentons Europe CEO Tomasz Dabrowski said: “Our strategy for this region is simple: to be a top firm in all the markets where we are present.”
