Clifford Chance has made up 24 new partners across the world, with the bulk of the promotions coming from Continental Europe.
In total, the magic circle firm promoted six City lawyers – the same number as last year.
A further eleven partners have been promoted across Continental Europe – including three in Frankfurt. There have been additional promotions in Amsterdam, Paris and Warsaw.
There are fewer promotions this year in the firm’s US offices, which welcomed three new partners in 2016. In 2017, just finance lawyer Kristine Manoukian has been promoted in New York.
Manoukian is one of four female lawyers to make the cut this year, equivalent to 17 per cent. The firm last year revealed it increased its female partner headcount from 17 per cent to 18.1 per cent, although it is attempting to reach a target of 30 per cent. Figures for May 2017 show women now account for 19 per cent of Clifford Chance’s partnership.
The three remaining new female partners are Paris litigation lawyer Katrin Schallenberg, Singapore-based finance lawyer Lena Ng and Tokyo’s Natsuko Sugihara, who sits in the corporate team.
The Asia-Pacific region saw five promotions in total in Hong Kong, as well as Perth.
In London, corporate lawyer James Bole and real estate lawyer Matt Taylor both trained at the firm. Fellow corporate lawyer Jonathan Kewley started off his career at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
Owen Lysak, Timothy Cleary and David Robson complete the London cohort and sit in the finance team.
