Eversheds Sutherland has made up 20 new partners – the first to be announced since the firms’ transatlantic £600m tie-up went live at the start of February.
All new partners are from the Eversheds side of the business, with US firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan making up seven lawyers at the start of the calendar year.
Eversheds Sutherland has made up fewer partners than last year, when 26 lawyers made the cut.
Female representation is also less than last year, with women accounting for 30 per cent of promotions in 2017 compared to 42 per cent.
Half of the new partners will be based in the UK – the largest contingent coming from the firm’s Birmingham office. A total of four partners have been made up in the city, compared to one in London. Leeds and Manchester have seen two promotions a-piece.
The vast majority of lawyers hail from the firm’s company commercial practice group, making up 70 per cent of total promotions.
Last year, the firm also prioritised the practice over any other department – four new partners have been made in litigation, while two work in real estate.
