Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld is taking advantage of Paul Hastings’ upcoming office move, agreeing to take some of its space in the City.
In April, it was revealed that Paul Hastings will relocate to new premises at 100 Bishopsgate in the third quarter of 2019, having been a tenant of 10 Bishops Square for over a decade.
The move will enable Akin Gump to take on an extra 28,000 sq ft of space when Paul Hastings moves out, although the purchase does not constitute the entire floor.
Akin Gump currently takes up 45,000 sq ft of space in the building, of which Allen & Overy is the major occupier.
All of Akin Gump’s London lawyers and staff moved into 10 Bishops Square in 2016; offices that were previously owned by Bingham McCutchen.
Akin Gump merged with Bingham McCutchen’s London operations in 2014 in a deal that added 22 partners in the City, Frankfurt and Hong Kong.
According to the US Top 50 Firms in London report, published this week, Akin Gump’s London revenue rose 9 per cent from $87.9m to $96.2m over 2017.
The firm counted 37 partners and 91 qualified lawyers, rising slightly on 2016’s figures which reached 36 and 89 respectively.
Since 2016 – the first financial year since the Bingham merger – headcount in London has grown 14 per cent.
