The general counsel of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) has stepped down from the role after 10 years.

London-based David Geen joined ISDA in 2006 from Goldman Sachs, where he was an executive director and senior counsel from six years.

Between 2006 and 2008, he served as European general counsel at the trade association before moving on to the top legal position and replacing Kimberly Summe.

His departure from ISDA means general counsel for the Americas, New-York based Katherine Tew Darras, will stand in for Geen while a successor is appointed.

When he was first appointed as general counsel, Geen expanded the organisation’s preferred global advisers to Allen & Overy (A&O), Clifford Chance and Linklaters. Until then, ISDA had adopted a one-firm approach, leaning towards A&O.

Before moving in-house, Geen worked at Baker & McKenzie from 1988, becoming a partner nine years later.
