Zaha Hadid Architects has appointed Balfour Beatty Investments lawyer Tamsyn McLean as its first general counsel.
McLean joins the company from Balfour Beatty Investments, where she was a senior commercial manager for over two years, and helped to advise on the legal and commercial aspects of large infrastructure projects.
She moved in-house after a seven-year career as a senior associate at Allen & Overy, which she joined in 2005. Prior to this, she trained and worked as a solicitor at Scottish firm Brodies.

Zaha Hadid Architects began its search for a general counsel last summer, owing to the continued growth of the business. The company has designed multiple buildings across the world, including the London Aquatics Centre, Guangzhou Opera House and the Bergisel Ski Jump in Austria.
As Zaha Hadid’s first legal head, McLean will be responsible for negotiating commercial contracts and agreements for the company’s architectural services, managing disputes and operational legal issues, as well as advising the management team on business development initiatives.
