Clifford Chance has hired two asset finance partners from Norton Rose Fulbright in Singapore, including the latter’s co-head of Asia Pacific transport practice Gervais Green.

Green will be joined by fellow partner Kate Sherrard at Clifford Chance. Their project finance practices focus on the shipping and offshore oil and gas sectors. Green was a long-serving partner at Norton Rose Fulbright, while Sherrard was made up last year.

Commenting on the latest hires, Clifford Chance’s London-based global head of asset finance William Glaister said: “Having them join us in Singapore, an international hub for offshore oil and gas and LNG shipping, represents a significant enhancement of our global capability.”

Clifford Chance established its maritime and offshore practice in Asia Pacific in 2013 with the hire of Mayer Brown JSM’s Asia finance head Alastair MacAulay in Hong Kong. The two new partners will work closely with MacAulay as well as Singapore-based global co-head of the worldwide project group Nicholas Wong.

It is the second time Clifford Chance has tapped Norton Rose Fulbright to build up its asset finance practice in Singapore. In 2008, Clifford Chance hired aviation finance partner Simon Briscoe from its UK rival.

Norton Rose Fulbright Singapore asset finance partner Robert Driver confirmed the two partners’ resignation, and said: “We have communicated the situation to our clients and continue to serve them accordingly. The bulk of the fee-earning team at both partner and associate level remains in place.”
