Adrian Beltrami QC has pulled out of a planned move to One Essex Court, instead opting to remain at his current chambers, 3 Verulam Buildings (3VB).
Beltrami was set to move to the new set with fellow banking and commercial silk Sonia Tolaney QC on Wednesday (30 March). He is understood to have changed his mind over the bank holiday weekend, though Tolaney has gone through with the move.
It marks good news for 3VB, which last week thought it had lost two of its most eminent silks.
Chambers director Robin Jackson told The Lawyer last week he was “sorry” to see them go, adding the pair had “brought a great deal to 3VB in their time with us”.
Two juniors have moved with Tolaney, starting at their new chambers today. They are James MacDonald and Sandy Phipps.
3VB now has 68 members including 24 silks, while One Essex’s new members bring headcount up to 89 including 34 silks.
One Essex Court made another big hire this month, taking Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer disputes veteran Ian Terry.
