Sloane-Simon-Fieldfisher-2016Reed Smith arbitration partner Simon Sloane has joined Fieldfisher’s dispute resolution practice in London. Sloane has been Singapore-based since 2006, having joined Reed Smith in 2013 after a 17-year career at Holman Fenwick Willan. He focuses on the energy, construction and insurance industries.

London

Ashurst has hired two Herbert Smith Freehills’ partners, Nick Elverston and Amanda Hale. They join its global TMT team. Elverston was head of HSF’s global TMT group.

City firm Lewis Silkin has appointed media and entertainment consultant Alan Davis. He was previously a non-­executive director at Entertainment & Media Group.

Max Baird-Smith has joined Payne Hicks Beach as a partner in its ­company and commercial department. He joins from BDGS Associés.

Carlo Kostka has joined Covington & Burling’s global financial institutions practice in London. He most recently served as co-head of UniCredit’s legal department.

Hill Dickinson has appointed partner Emma Galland to join its national health practice. Galland was formerly a legal director at Clyde & Co.

Prosecution firm Edmonds ­Marshall McMahon has recruited trust and fraud partner Sofie Hoffman as a partner, who joins from ­Boodle Hatfield.

Squire Patton Boggs data privacy partner Mark Gleeson has joined Browne Jacobson in London, along with Taylor Wessing patent litigation consultant Kathleen Fox Murphy.

Former head of employment at SA Law Vanessa James has joined Ashfords’ employment team.

South

Private client lawyers Lucy Fisher and Dominic Ibbs have both joined BP Collins as associates in Buckinghamshire. Fisher was previously director at B Legal, while Ibbs was a solicitor at HRJ Foreman Laws.

Foot Anstey has appointed Martin Hirst as a partner in the firm’s real estate group. Hirst was formerly a partner at Blake Morgan.


North

Gateley has increased its offering in the Leeds legal market with the hire of its first real estate partner there: Phil Gregory from ­Gordons.

Harper Macleod has bolstered its family law team in Glasgow by recruiting Family Law Matters partner Jenny Smith.

Europe

Sir Nicholas Forwood QC, formerly a judge of the General Court of the EU, has joined White & Case in Brussels. He joins the firm as counsel on a part-time basis.

Berwin Leighton Paisner has hired real estate and infrastructure partner Boris Strauch, who previously served as counsel at Dentons.

Former Bonn & Schmitt partners Marcus Peter, Andreas Heinzmann and Philipp Mössner have joined GSK Stockmann & Kollegen in the firm’s new Luxembourg office.

Squire Patton Boggs has recruited partner Silvia Belovičová. She joins the firm’s restructuring and insolvency practice in Bratislava from the partnership of White & Case.

Antitrust law partner Heinrich Kühnert is joining Dorda Brugger Jordis to head up the firm’s competition and antitrust desk in Vienna.

Nico Jacobs has become a partner in Kennedy Van der Laan’s commercial real estate team. He was the founding partner of Amsterdam-based law firm ENSPIGT.

Tomasz Braun has joined Dentons as a banking and finance partner in Warsaw. He joins from HSBC Holdings in ­London, where he served as associate general counsel, legal risk management and assurance.

Middle East

King & Wood Mallesons lawyer Matthew Showler has joined Dentons’ Dubai office as a partner in its dispute resolution practice.

Allen & Overy (A&O) alumnus Tom Butcher has rejoined the firm as a partner to head up its Middle East technology, media and telecommunications and intellectual property practice. Butcher returns to A&O after two years at Simmons & Simmons.

US

Linklaters has announced the appointment of Meghan O’Sullivan as the third member of its international advisory group. She is a former national security adviser for Iraq and Afghanistan.

Luke Dembosky has joined Debevoise & Plimpton’s cybersecurity and data privacy practice as a partner in Washington DC. He was formerly deputy assistant attorney general for national security at the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

Kirkland & Ellis has hired Vinson & Elkins corporate partner Adam Larson to its partnership in Houston.

Paul Pysher has joined Choate Hall & Stewart as a partner in its intellectual property group. He was previously a principal in the ­Boston office of Fish & Richardson.

Asia-Pacific

Clyde & Co has appointed DLA Piper partner Benjamin Hirasawa as a partner and head of hospitality in Asia-Pacific. He will be joined in Singapore by senior associate Jonathan Lynch, who formerly headed DLA Piper’s Myanmar desk.

Hong Kong-based Bonita Chan has joined K&L Gates as of counsel in its litigation and dispute resolution practice. She was a partner at Hastings & Co.

The Bar

3 Stone Buildings (3SB) junior James Weale has joined Serle Court after fellow 3SB barristers Richard Wilson QC and Constance McDonnell also made the same move.

Promotions

Arnold & Porter has elected seven new partners across the US. Dominique Casimir, Mahnu Davar, Stanton Jones and Paige Sharpe have all been made up in Washington DC, with Reeves Anderson, Ryan Nishimoto and Matt Salzmann all promoted in Denver, LA and New York respectively.

West London firm IBB Solicitors has announced that Joanna Debiase has been made managing partner, succeeding Steven Booth. Booth will instead take up the newly created role of senior partner.

Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson has elected 10 partners across its New York and Washington DC offices. Most promotions have been across the corporate department, with a number of partners also made up in real estate, bankruptcy and executive compensation and employee benefits.
