Mayer Brown is piloting agile working in its construction department, with management to report on the results of the trial to the partnership in July.

If the trial goes well, Mayer Brown would be one of the first US law firms in the City to adopt agile working.

A growing number of firms have moved to the new way of working over the last decade, but take-up at US practices in London has been notably low.

Mayer Brown’s pilot is understood to have been running since the start of this year. The firm will collect feedback from construction partners in July before reporting the results to the wider business later in the summer.

The firm has approximately 32 lawyers working across its construction practice in London including 12 partners.

A push into agile working would see Mayer Brown’s 225 UK lawyers including 87 partners adopt the new system.

The plans follow a largely static few years for the firm’s UK financials, which saw the firm drop from fourth place in The Lawyer’s Top 30 International Firms in London ranking back in 2010 to tenth place last year.

Mayer Brown’s London office revenue grew slightly from $162m in 2013 to $167.3m in 2014 following a number of key lateral hires, including White & Case banking and finance partner Mayank Gupta and Allen & Overy benefits partner Stefan Martin.

City giants have been slowly embracing agile working over the last five years, with take-up snowballing recently.

Clifford Chance, Linklaters and Herbert Smith Freehills revealed they had made agile working available to partners last year. The move saw the firms join the ranks of Mishcon de Reya, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, Foot Anstey and DAC Beachcroft. Olswang has also recently completed an agile working pilot and will move to both agile working and open plan next year.
