White & Case has hired four McDermott Will & Emery partners to open its first office in Boston.
The recruits include McDermott’s head of white-collar and securities defence Michael Kendall, who will take up the role of executive partner in the Boston office.
He will be joined by fellow partners Kevin Bolan and Lauren Papenhausen, while the fourth recruit Andrew Tomback will be based in White & Case’s New York office.
Launching in Boston is part of White & Case’s new five-year strategy to expand in the US. The office will be its sixth in the country. The firm also wants to boost lawyer numbers in both London and New York, with both locations targeted for further growth.
At the start of February, the firm reported revenue growth of 1 per cent over 2015 to $1.52bn, amid a 6 per cent rise in partner headcount.
The firm has seen a number of office openings and closings in the past year, announcing a new association in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. The firm also opened an office in Seoul and closed up shop in Munich, with its 11-lawyer team given the option to relocate to Frankfurt.
