European moves: 28 April 2016

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.

Benelux

Jones Day has announced the arrival of Jörg Hladjk as of counsel and leader of the cybersecurity, privacy & data protection practice in its Brussels office. Hladjk was previously counsel at Hunton & Williams in Brussels.

Dutch firm Loyens & Loeff has appointed Marieke Bakker and Gert Wim van de Meent as members of its executive board for a term of two years. Willem Jarigsma was reappointed as managing partner for a second term of two years. Fred van der Leije did not stand for reappointment.

Central & Eastern Europe

Dentons has strengthened its capital markets practice in Warsaw with the arrival of partner Jakub Celiński. Celiński moves to Dentons after 20 years at Baker & McKenzie, where he co-headed the securities practice group. He has brought senior associates Piotr Kowalik and Ryszard Manteuffel with him to his new firm.

France

White & Case has hired Yann Utzschneider as a partner in its global antitrust practice in Paris. Utzschneider will lead the Paris office’s competition, EU law and economic regulation practice and joins from Gide Loyrette Nouel, where he was also a partner.

Simmons & Simmons is expanding in Paris with the appointment of Simonetta Giordano as a partner in its corporate and commercial practice on 2 May. Giordano joins the firm from Clifford Chance where she was a counsel. She specialises in M&A and corporate finance transactions in the life sciences sector.

Iberia

CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo has promoted Curra Munuera to its partnership. Munuera was previously a counsel in the firm’s banking and finance practice.

Ireland

Arthur Cox is making a rare partner hire from its major rival, A&L Goodbody, with the appointment of corporate partner Cian McCourt. McCourt has been a partner at A&L Goodbody since 2007, and was resident partner in the firm’s New York office between 2011 and 2015.

DWF has appointed Ross Little as a partner in the firm’s corporate team in Dublin. Little joins from William Fry, where he was also a partner.

ByrneWallace has appointed four new partners. Corporate partner Neil Keenan joins the firm from LKG Solicitors, where he was managing partner. Paraic O’Kennedy was previously in-house counsel at the Bank of Ireland and specialises in advising financial institutions and borrowers in connection with all forms of secured and unsecured lending transactions. Employment lawyer Emmet Whelan and property lawyer Helen Flynn have both been promoted to partner from within the firm.

Russia

French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel has handed over management of its Moscow office to partner Tim Theroux. Theroux joined Gide in Moscow in 2011 and has been a partner since 2013.
