Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) has made up nine lawyers to its partnership in a round heavily focused on the firm’s shipping and aviation practices.

Shipping received the largest number of new partners with three of its lawyers being made up while HFW’s aviation practice saw two made up. The remaining partners sit with the firm’s commodities, corporate, employment and insurance practices.

The promotions are spread across six of the firm’s international offices although its London office still received the largest number of promotions with three. Singapore received two new partners while the rest of the lawyers were based in Geneva, Hong Kong, Paris and Shanghai.

HFW senior partner Richard Crump said that the promotions showed the firm’s commitment to investing in its international strategy and core sector focus.

Female lawyers were strongly represented in this year’s promotions round and accounted for four out of the nine new partners, or 44 per cent of the promotions.

This year’s round is the largest to take place at HFW since 2013 when the firm promoted nine lawyers to its partnership. In 2014 the number of promotions fell by a third when six partners were made up and again decreased to four in 2015.

The promotions took effect on 1 April 2016.
