Partners from Gowling WLG, Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) and King Wood Mallesons (KWM) are joining forces to launch a 10-lawyer planning boutique.
HSF real estate partner Patrick Robinson will become managing partner of the firm named Town Legal, with his former HSF colleague Clare Fielding also joining from Gowling WLG.
They will be joined by KWM partner Simon Ricketts, as well as Cornerstone Barristers’ Mary Cook.
Ricketts will continue to act as a part-time consultant for KWM, while the other members are all set to leave their firms by the end of the year.
KWM managing associate Meeta Kaur will become a partner at Town Legal alongside HSF senior associate Elizabeth Christie. An additional four fee-earners are also set to join as associates.
Town Legal launches in January 2017 and will focus on planning work in central London, and provide housing development and urban extension advice for companies outside London.
It will not be pursuing infrastructure work, with partners instead specialising in planning and development work.
