Morgan Lewis London managing partner Peter Sharp has stepped down after six years in the role, handing over the reins to competition partner and UK group head Frances Murphy, The Lawyer can reveal.

Sharp had been in charge of Morgan Lewis’ London office since 2012, having joined from defunct firm Dewey & LeBouef alongside London litigation partners David Waldron – who co-chaired both the firm’s litigation group outside of the US and the energy litigation practice group – and Nick Greenwood.

Prior to that, Sharp led the London office of legacy LeBoeuf Lamb Greene & McRae before its merger with Dewey Ballantine in 2007, and was subsequently head of the firm’s combined City base for more than two years.

Sharp has returned to full-time fee-earning as a partner in the firm’s London litigation practice.

The firm has not confirmed how long Murphy’s term as London managing partner will be but it is thought to be a four-year initial stint.

In 2014, Murphy was the sole partner from the now-defunct Bingham McCutchen to join Morgan Lewis in the UK, having joined that firm a year before from Jones Day, where she had been head of competition.

She represents clients in EU and UK competition matters before the Competition and Markets Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority, the Competition Authority Tribunal, (CAT), the European Commission and the European Court of Justice.

It is not yet clear who will be taking over from Murphy as Morgan Lewis London competition head.
