DLA Piper has seen significant growth in two of its continental European offices in the last financial year, its LLP accounts have revealed.

Revenue in its France office saw a 25 per cent uptick while revenue across its three German offices grew by 18 per cent.

Globally revenue increased by just 0.4 per cent to £767.5m.

Operating costs for the firm increased by £10.6m to £502.7m in the last financial year. This was partly the result of increased investment in Africa plus costs related to it shifting some of its business support functions to Warsaw. The move led DLA to slash around 200 job roles in the UK.

The total number of staff at the firm increased by 56 to 389 in 2015/16, leading to a 2.3 per cent increase in staff costs to £271.1m last year.

In the last few weeks, DLA confirmed it was taking four trainees and nine support staff as part of a 23-strong lawyer team joining from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM). The group joined this week and include partners William Naunton and also including Cornelius Medvei, Bryan Pickup, Ed Page,

While new staff arrived, senior staff such as international real estate head Carsten Loll departed moving to Linklaters Munich office. Dechert also swooped on DLA Piper yet again in London, hiring partners Philip Butler and David Miles. Butler was DLA’s co-chair of the financial services sector, while Miles led the firm’s UK debt finance practice.
