Clifford Chance disputes partner Stephen Surgeoner has joined the London office of Dechert after 26 years at the magic circle firm.
Surgeoner practises commercial litigation, mostly advising banks, media and energy companies on UK disputes and arbitrations.
Dechert has been growing London slowly in the last financial year, with partner hires including Ross Allardice and John Markland from White & Case and Kirkland & Ellis. DLA Piper finance heavyweights Philip Butler and David Miles also joined at the end of last year.
Meanwhile London partner exits from Clifford Chance are still rare. The firm lost finance star Patrick Sarch to White & Case last year.
Before that, the last exit was competition partner Alastair Mordaunt who left for Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer at the start of 2016. EU public policy head and competition partner Oliver Bretz also left at the end of 2014 to set up Euclid Law.
