Morgan Lewis has bulked up its Shanghai office with a team of five lawyers from Simmons & Simmons led by employment and investigations partner Lesli Ligorner.

Ligorner has worked in China for more than 10 years, and is experienced in representing US and multinational companies in employment and corporate investigations related matters, including on the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and local anticorruption compliance.

The other lawyers joining Morgan Lewis with Ligorner are of counsel Dora Wang, and Katherine Liu, Xiaoqian Zhou and Kevin Yang.

The team have also handled investigations for US companies facing whistleblower allegations of public corruption and kickbacks, and have led numerous investigations into corruption at the subsidiaries of US-listed companies in China.

The latest team hire is a continuation of Morgan Lewis’s aggressive expansion in Asia through team bolt-ons. Last month the firm launched an office in Hong Kong with a nine-partner team from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe. Shortly after the launch, it took on four more senior lawyers from Orrick’s Hong Kong office and promoted them to partner.

Morgan Lewis opened its Shanghai office last September with a team of five partners and 18 lawyers from Dentons’ legacy Shanghai office. The office is led by real estate partner Mitch Dudek.
