Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired a six-partner energy team from Baker Botts’ Houston office.

The new recruits join just two months after Gibson Dunn announced plans to launch in the city, recruiting Latham & Watkins’ former oil and gas co-chair Michael Darden and lawyer Justin Stolte.

A team of six lawyers will be joining from Baker Botts – one of the largest firms in the Texas region.

The partners are Gerry Spedale, Hillary Holmes and Doug Rayburn, who all join Gibson Dunn’s capital markets team. Rayburn will divide his time between Dallas and Houston.

Tull Florey and Shalla Prichard will be partners in the M&A and finance practices, while James Chenowet joins the tax team.

According to The Lawyer’s Global 200 2016, Baker Botts’ major income generator remains its Texas home. It has 81 partners in Houston and a total of 203 other fee-earners in the office.

The news follows Gibson Dunn’s similar raid on Ropes & Gray’s Hong Kong office last week. The firm hired a four-partner from the firm, including its office managing partner Paul Boltz.
